Say No to Women’s Homelessness
this International Yoga Day
Sunday, 23 June – 2.00 to 3.30pm
with Helen Willoughby.
Bring a friend, everyone is welcome…
The Yoga Centre, East Redfern, is hosting a special asana class for International Yoga Day with all proceeds going to support women out of homelessness.
Every day almost 50,000 Australian women find themselves homeless. The majority of these women are victims of domestic and family violence; many have children in tow. They sleep in shelters, cars, or on the street, making them among the most vulnerable and disadvantaged in our society.
A short distance down the round from the Yoga Centre is The Big Issue’s Women’s Subscription Enterprise that provides hundreds of homeless women with work opportunities to help them back into secure housing. The Enterprise has been operating out of Redfern since 2010 and was set up to find an alternative source of employment to the Big Issue’s street selling operations. The Big Issue is also raising funds through a separate entity, Homes for Homes, which uses public donations through private house sales to fund social housing. To find out more visit www.thebigissue.org.au
Helen has been associated with the Big Issue since it’s arrival in Sydney in 2000. She is a voluntary member of the Women’s Advisory Board that oversees the work of the Women’s Subscription Enterprise.
The Big Issue is transforming the lives of disadvantaged women. Let’s use the transformative powers of yoga to help them continue their important work saying no to women’s homelessness.
Cost: $15 minimum donation, or more if you can.
You can book a spot, see below, or just show up on the day.
