Introductory Teacher Training with Caroline Coggins

The Yoga Centre provides teacher training for experienced and dedicated Iyengar Yoga students who wish to deepen their practice and share their experience and knowledge with others.

The Teacher Training Program is taught by Caroline Coggins. Caroline is a senior Iyengar Yoga teacher with 35 years’ experience. Caroline has been a student of the Iyengar family since the 1980s and is qualified to train teachers in the Iyengar method.

The Program prepares students for Introductory Level assessment, in accordance with the requirements and minimum standards set by the BKS Iyengar Yoga Association of Australia (the Association). Certification at Introductory Level is determined by an external assessment committee set up by the Association. Certification to Introductory Level with the BKSIYAA enables the recipient to call themselves an Iyengar teacher and use the Iyengar trademark.

A referral for assessment from Caroline Coggins is needed to sit for assessment. This referral is subject to skill level achieved and an individual may require more than the minimum specified time on the Program to be ready for assessment.

Program structure and time frames

The Yoga Centre is offering a two year Introductory Teacher Training Program for the period January 2018 – December 2019.

The intention of the Program is that within the two year period trainees can do the minimum number of hours required for certification. The Program is compact, so that trainees’ learning and commitment is enabled, and there is support from the solidity of the group. Trainees make a clear commitment with themselves and with Caroline, understanding what is necessary to embark on the training to become a stronger practitioner and then a teacher. It is not envisaged that trainees will necessarily be ready to do an assessment at the end of the two year period, but from the basis of these two years they can proceed at their own pace. The emphasis is on each trainee’s own willingness to learn, and the training is designed to encourage this.

In each of the two years 2018 and 2019, there will be four Sydney-based training modules. These form the core of the Program. In total, these modules will provide 108 hours of teacher training per year. Attendance at these modules is necessary for all trainees.

A second key element of the Program is the annual Bali retreat. Trainees are strongly encouraged to attend Bali at least once during the two year period.

In 2018 there will also be two Teacher Development modules offered in Byron Bay and trainees are encouraged to consider these as they develop their yearly learning plan.

Trainees also have the option of attending classes and workshops taught by Caroline, at the Yoga Centre or other locations around Australia. These typically include Sunshine Coast, Perth, Coffs Harbour etc. Go to http://yogacentre.com.au/events/ for further information on these events in 2018.
