On Retreating in Bali

The Bali retreat has been an annual event for 20 years.

It mirrors my own experience of going to India to study yearly for over 35 years. Each time I went I was carving a learning time for myself. I was taught, and I was in an environment that knew what I had to learn was deep within. I was returning to the source. Yes the source of my lineage, but into my inner source, where the outside world was focused toward this inner river of life, replenishment, and, most significantly, I understood that I needed to constantly bathe here.

I had time and encouragement to tend to my need for inner focus, made stronger by that attending to, and so easily forgotten in daily life. I learnt over and over to do the asana with fresh eyes and open heart, beginning again, back to the source, the river of life.

The days in Bali revolve around a yoga class, a morning meditation and time of silence, and an afternoon practice and pranayama. Meals are simple, vegetarian fare, most at Santa Putra, with some free evenings to eat elsewhere. We venture away from Santa Putra and the retreat on one afternoon to taste Bali in her wider context.
